Book Review
EXPLORING CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY Volume 2, Bethany House,Minneapolis ,
2014. by Nathan D. Holsteen, Michael J. Svigel.
This is the second volume of a primer on Christian Theology. Like the first volume it is reader friendly and easily understandable. It upholds the fundamental/evangelical view. This volume centers on the creation, fall, and salvation. They organize the volume in four acts: Act 1 – Creation; Act 2 – Fall; Act 3 – Redemption; and Act 4 – Restoration. Like any good primer it gives a good balance of the views on different views of theology. I like the emphasis on the Grace of God.
The book is uniform in its presentation with the other volumes with charts; surveys, passages to master on each subject, doctrinal history, facts of the subject; dangers to avoid, principles to put into practice; quotes from past voices; and recommendations for your library on the subject. There is a lot of positives in this series. Like any primer it gives the basic elements of the subject. It will help the beginning student or layman to grasp the essence of the theology, but more experienced theology students and Pastor will likewise find this series helpful. It also will aid the student go beyond the basics with anointed recommendations for expanding your library. Past theologians are well represented in the voices from the past and present sections. It is not simply dry theology, but gives practical principles to live by.
This is ideal for a beginning Theology class, as well as an adult class in the local church setting. I highly recommend this primer series. It is an enjoyable, practical, and helpful book that should be on the self of every Pastor and Bible student. It is designed to help you to go deeper into the subject. It is a solid, understandable, and faithful work. It will not disappoint you.
(I received a copy of this book free from the publisher Bethany House in exchange for my review. I was not required to give a positive review.)
